Awards and Honors received

Thalia Spanish Theatre is known for its artistic and managerial excellence.

Our more than 190 plays, musicals, zarzuelas and Folklore Shows have won 170 awards for artistic excellence, among them the 2010 HISPANIC LEADERSHIP AWARD, from City Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer, the 2009 Mayor’s Award for Arts and Culture, the 1997 New York State Governor’s Arts Award, the 1989 and 1997 Encore Awards from the Arts and Business Council, and 101 from ACE (Association of Critics of Entertainment), an organization for the Spanish-language press in New York.

Maestro Raul Jaurena’s compositions for our 2005 musical “Te Amo Tango”, recorded live at our theatre and released on CD by Soundbrush Records, won the 2007 Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album.

We have received numerous Citations of Honor, Proclamations, and Resolutions from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Queens Borough Presidents Helen Marshall and Claire Shulman, former Governor Mario Cuomo, both houses of the New York State Legislature, and the New York City Council.
